Wildlife Gardening Workshops

Learn how to transform your home, school, work, or community garden into a bird paradise.

Is your garden bird-friendly?

Attend a FREE Wildlife Gardening Workshop this spring or fall! Just check our Upcoming Events for dates and times.

In Baltimore City, there are few green oases for migrating birds to rest and feed on their long journeys. Along the Atlantic Flyway, habitats have been fragmented and degraded. That's why Patterson Park Audubon Center is creating the visionary habitat patchwork quilt across Baltimore City and beyond. Our roots are in Patterson Park, with our volunteer-maintained native habitat gardens. Spreading out like branches into the surrounding communities are neighbors who are establishing their own patches of bird-friendly habitat.

Whether you have a backyard or a balcony, a rooftop deck or a window box, or an entire community park, you can join Audubon educators to gain the knowledge and tools needed to plan your own wildlife sanctuary - AND, brag to your neighbors with your very own Audubon Bird-Friendly Habitat recognition sign!

To get started, join Audubon at one of our Wildlife Gardening Workshops - they're free and open to the public! Come learn how to transform your dwelling into a native wildlife paradise. Audubon experts are on hand to share practical tips and scientific support for gardening with native plants outside your home, school, work, or anywhere else you can share with biodiversity. You'll leave with the resources you need to beautify your outdoor space and attract birds, butterflies, and other beneficial wildlife!

Attending one of Audubon’s Wildlife Gardening Workshops is key to understanding the scientific support for gardening with native plants, as well as learning practical tips to beautify your urban home. We love working one-on-one with you to find the best ways to share your space with Maryland's incredible biodiversity.

Patterson Park Audubon Center offers workshops at two levels, both an Introduction to Bird-Friendly Gardening, and a more advanced Bird-Friendly Garden Design workshop, for those who already understand the scientific theory behind native plants for birds. While we recommend our introductory workshop as a prerequisite, Design workshop participants will dive into the best methods to plan for and sustain a beautiful landscape while supporting beneficial wildlife.
