Bird-Friendly Habitat Recognition

You can create bird-friendly habitat around your own home, school, business, and public spaces!  Whether you have a backyard or a balcony, a rooftop deck or a window box, or an entire community park, you can join Audubon to gain the knowledge and tools needed to plan your own wildlife sanctuary.

Creating bird-friendly habitat can be a fun and fulfilling exercise for you, your family, and your community. You'll want to transform your outdoor spaces into a place that can be enjoyed by people and birds, by providing as many habitat resources as possible - food, water, shelter, and a place for birds to raise their young. You will also want to eliminate bird mortality caused by outdoor cats and window strikes, as well as removing invasive plants and animals, and reducing the use of pesticides and fertilizers.

Think your property is bird-friendly? Get your habitat recognized and add a sign - the perfect conversation-starter on why you and your neighbors should join the Audubon team in protecting the Mid-Atlantic's birds. You may be able to earn bird-friendly habitat recognition from your local Audubon chapter. Visit Audubon's Native Plants Database, enter your zip code, and click Search. From there, navigate to the Local Resources tab to see whether a habitat recognition program, or other native plants services, exists in your area. You can also get your Plants for Birds sign from National Audubon Society.
